Due to the wet climate in the Pacific Northwest, roof integrity is paramount. Unfortunately, due to issues such as wind driven rain, cracks in the membrane, or improperly installed roofing material, water gets in. Oregon Infrared can save thousands of dollars in determining exactly where the water is intruding and can help guide personnel towards repairs.


Many areas around roof penetrations such as HVAC units, skylights, and end caps can allow moisture intrusion by wind driven rain. Wind driven rain is when the wind blows water into cracks that wouldn’t normally be susceptible to standing water or rain falling straight down. These areas can soak parts of the roof and cause leaks into the building without showing any external damage. These areas can be correctly identified by our trained infrared thermographers and can save thousands in replacement costs.

Cracks in roofing membranes and failed seams cannot always be easy to spot but they can be a major source of moisture intrusion. Infrared Thermography can not only spot these cracks but also determine the area affected by the water.


Oregon Infrared uses two different methods for scanning roofs; both take place at dusk/dark when the temperature differential is the highest and the imagery in the camera is most accurate. One method is the walk on. The walk on entails personnel getting on top of the roof with a ladder and inspecting the roof and making marks to identify areas of moisture. The other method is a fly- by in a helicopter. This method allows for a more global view of the roof; seeing all areas and getting a better handle how any moisture has affected the roof as a whole. Of course, both methods can be applied over the course of several evenings allowing for a complete scan. Our reports are concise and easy to read and as always, we are prepared to sit down one on one and explain our findings.
